Mr. George Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will take steps to introduce a disability income related to loss of earnings.

Mr. Loveridge

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what part of the proposals submitted to him by the Disablement Income Group he proposes to implement;

(2) when he will introduce a disability income related to loss of earnings;

(3) whether he will produce a long-term plan for financial help for all disabled people.

Hon. Members will be aware that the National Insurance Bill which was before the House on Second Reading yesterday includes a substantial package of selective improvements for the chronic sick at an estimated cost to the National Insurance Fund of £24 million in a full year.
