HL Deb 03 May 1971 vol 318 cc147-8WA
LORD SIMON OF GLAISDALE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware that the Law Commission in their Report as long ago as July 23, 1969 (Law Commission No. 25), paragraph 2, expressed the "hope, within the next few months, to publish a preliminary study in a further Working Paper" with a view to "a root and branch reform of family property"; and when such Report may be expected.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

As the noble Lord will remember, a preliminary draft was given limited circulation for comment in the summer of 1970. The Law Commission expect to publish, by the autumn of this year, a Working Paper based on that preliminary draft extensively revised in the light of comments received. The submission of a Final Report must depend on the comments received on the Working Paper.

House adjourned at fourteen minutes past ten o'clock.
