The highest obstruction within 15 nautical miles of the reference point of the Roskill Commission's preferred site is the chimney of Kingsnorth Power Station near Hoo in Kent: the chimney top is 670 feet above mean sea level, but as it is 143 nautical miles from the reference point it would not be regarded as an obstruction to aircraft using an airport on that site.
