Mr. Edelmanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action the Government is taking in order to create a public awareness of the disease of alcoholism, to promote a study of the disease and research into its cause and effect, and to promote, in particular, a study of alcoholism by appropriate medical colleges and faculties of sociology.
§ Mr. AlisonWith regard to public education, the Scottish Health Education Unit conducted a campaign last year the results of which are being evaluated and further publicity is planned during this year. In the field of research, financial support is being given to four projects 331W being undertaken by the Addiction Research Unit of the Institute of Psychiatry in London.
