asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will announce the name of the next Chairman of the Welsh Council.

Mr. Peter Thomas

Professor Brinley Thomas has announced that he will be relinquishing the Chairmanship of the Welsh Council at the end of the present Council's term of office on 31st March next. I would like to express my warm appreciation of the services rendered by Professor Thomas.

I am pleased to say that Mr. Melvyn W. Rosser, who has been Chairman of the Council's Industry and Communications Panel for the past three years, has accepted my invitation to succeed Professor Thomas as Chairman of the Welsh Council. Mr. Rosser's appointment will be for three years from 1st April next.
