§ 117. Mr. Edwin Wainwrightasked the Secretary of State for Employment in view of the fact that the closing down of the Kaldo steel plant, at the Park Gate works, Rotherham will increase the percentage of unemployed registered at the Mexborough and district employment exchange, what action his Department intends to take to help those concerned find jobs in the Mexborough district to counter-balance the loss of work.
§ Mr. Dudley SmithI understand that the Kaldo steel plant at the Park Gate Works, Rotherham, is not due to close until 1972–73. At this stage it is not possible to make any reliable assessment of the effect this closure will have on the Mexborough unemployment register.
My Department will of course be ready to give every possible assistance to redundant employees.
