§ Mr. James Hillasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when she proposes to open the Direct Grant List; and, in particular, when she expects to give a decision on the application for direct grant status made in October, 1970 by King Edward's School, Southampton, a voluntary aided boys grammar school.
§ Mrs. ThatcherMy immediate concern is with existing direct grant schools. I cannot, at present, re-open the Direct Grant List. The letter to which the Question is assumed to refer gave notice that the governors of the school would like it to be considered for direct grant status in the event of the list being re-opened.
