HC Deb 19 March 1971 vol 813 cc419-20W
Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the lead content in the blood of both children and adults in urban populations in the United Kingdom, taking account of lead from high-octane petrol, lead from the water supply, and lead from other sources.

Mr. Alison

I am advised that the average amounts of lead in the blood of groups of either adults or children in urban areas of the United Kingdom are usually found to be between 20 and 30 micrograms per 100 millilitre of blood. Some reports have given even lower concentrations.
