§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has had from the milling industry about the higher import levies for cereals announced on 17th March; and what replies he has sent.
§ Mr. Anthony StodartThe industry made a number of representations at earlier stages, and some of these my right hon. Friend has since found it possible to meet.
§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his estimate of the percentage rise in the price of bread and other flour-based products in 1971, in 1972 and in 1973 as a result of the proposed increases in import levies on cereals.
§ Mr. PriorIt is not possible to make a realistic estimate of the effects on bread and other flour-based product costs directly attributable to the proposed increases in the minimum import price levels for cereals because of their interrelationship with movements in the world market prices of wheats. If the world430W market prices of wheats were to remain stable at their present levels, there would be no increase in bread and flour product costs due to import levies in 1971 and less than 1 per cent. average increase in 1972. The levels of minimum import prices after 1972 will be the subject of later determination.
