asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer taking the £ sterling to have been worth 100 pence at March, 1970, what is its value now.

Mr. Higgins

Taking the purchasing power of the £ sterling to be 100p in March, 1970, its value in January, 1971, the latest date for which information is available, is estimated at 93p.

This comparison is based on the movement in the General Index of Retail Prices.
