HC Deb 17 March 1971 vol 813 cc329-30W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now make a statement on the results of the official inspection of the private school in Thornton, Fife, for mentally handicapped and disturbed children.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Following a full series of inspections during which all aspects were discussed with the proprietor and staff a number of suggestions for improvements have been made which my Department have now put to the proprietor in writing. There will be further inspections in two or three months' time to review progress. In the meantime the school will not be finally registered. I can assure the hon. Member that I fully share his concern that this school must, if it is to continue, be brought up to acceptable standards.
