HC Deb 16 March 1971 vol 813 cc262-3W
22. Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement showing the ways in which it is intended to allocate the additional funds which he will spend on the National Health Service.

Sir K. Joseph

Additional funds are increases already planned by the previous Government plus the extra £110 million over four years injected by the present Government. The method of allocation of the total is shown in the Health and Welfare section of Part 2 of the White Paper on Public Expenditure (Cmnd. 4578).

The extra £110 million is intended largely for the improvement of hospital and local authority services for the mentally handicapped, mentally ill and the elderly, for the younger chronic sick, for alcoholism and for increased support to national voluntary organisations. Other services expected to develop include family planning and services for the chronically sick and disabled.
