HC Deb 16 March 1971 vol 813 c312W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council (1) whether he is aware that members of the personal secretary grade in the Civil Service were in January, 1965, in receipt of salaries of £960 per annum plus pension rights; that on 1st March, 1971, the salaries were £1,335, and that this rate is subject to revision with effect from 1st January, 1971; and as Members of Parliament have to employ personal secretaries, if he will submit this information to the review body appointed to investigate Members of Parliament's salaries;

(2) whether he is aware that recently there have been increases in expense allowances for local councillors and Justices of the Peace; and whether he will refer these increases to the Review Body on Members of Parliament's Pay.

Mr. Whitelaw

I would again refer the hon. Member to the written reply I gave him on 15th January.—[Vol. 809, c.138–9.]
