HC Deb 16 March 1971 vol 813 c279W
82. Mr. McGuire

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the ratio of hospital beds to population in the Ince constituency area; and how this compares with the average in the areas served by the Liverpool and Manchester Regional Hospital Boards, and nationally.

Mr. Alison

Hospital catchment areas are not directly related to constituency boundaries. Patients from the Ince constituency would normally be referred to hospitals of the Wigan and Leigh and the Ormskirk and District Hospital Management Committees. The relevant ratios of beds per 1,000 population, excluding mental illness and mental handicapped beds (of which there are few under the Hospital Management Committees concerned), are as follows:

Ormskirk and District Hospital Management Committee 4.86
Wigan and Leigh Hospital Management Committee 4.55
Liverpool Regional Hospital Board 5.79
Manchester Regional Hospital Board 5.33
England 5.38
