HC Deb 16 March 1971 vol 813 c284W
Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will set out in tabular form the number of hospital doctors in each of the last ten years; and how many of them held degrees or qualifications from foreign or Commonwealth universities or medical schools.

Mr. Alison

The information about countries of qualification asked for in the second part of the Question is not available; the following table gives the available information about the numbers of hospital doctors in England and Wales who were born abroad, including some who qualified in the United Kingdom.

Committee of the Standing Medical Advisory Committee has recently been circulated for study by a number of professional and other interested bodies. The recommendations in the paper will be considered in due course by my right hon. Friend in the light of the views expressed by these bodies and the advice of the Central Health Services Council.
