Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) how many local authorities in England and Wales do, and do not, exercise their right to sell council houses to sitting tenants, respectively;

(2) how many council houses were sold to sitting tenants in England and Wales in each of the last six years;

(3) how many houses were built by local authorities for sale in England and Wales in each of the last six years.

In 1970, 242 out of 1,367 local housing authorities (excluding new towns) sold a total of 6,396 council dwellings which had not been built for sale and these sales are generally made to sitting tenants.

In the same period, local authorities sold 585 dwellings which had been built for sale.

The number of sales in previous years appear in Housing Statistics No. 19

District Council, Nottinghamshire, he will state how many applications have been granted for standard grants and discretionary grants under the Housing Acts, with the total value of each form of grant for each authority, respectively, in the last 12 months.
