HC Deb 15 March 1971 vol 813 cc258-9W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales who is responsible for the fact that consultations with British Rail over reconstruction of the Wolfcastle Bridge have been delayed; what is the nature of the problem that has caused the delay; if the consultations are now complete; and, in view of the fact that work will have to start at the height of the tourist season, what steps he is now taking to speed up the operation.

Mr. Peter Thomas

These consultations have not been delayed. Account had to be taken in designing the new bridge of the possibility that British Rail might introduce single line working on this stretch of line. It has now been decided that this will be done. The design of the bridge has accordingly been approved. The work will be carried out as quickly as possible and every effort will be made to reduce inconvenience to traffic.
