HC Deb 15 March 1971 vol 813 c242W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has made to the relevant local authority that the developers' plans on a site thought to be the lost Roman town of Bannaventa should be held up pending a properly conducted archaelogical investigation and possible excavation.

Mr. Amery

None. The owner was approached last November as soon as the importance of this site became apparent and readily agreed to suspend operations and allow time for the necessary archaelogical investigation. The resulting excavation, which started that month, is being conducted by the Rugby Archaelogical Society with the help of a grant.
