HC Deb 15 March 1971 vol 813 cc235-6W
Mrs. Doris Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what will be the total weekly cost of unemployment benefits payable to Rolls-Royce workers on the assumption that, in accordance with Government estimates, 40,000 such workers are dismissed.

Mr. Dudley Smith

No estimate that 40,000 Rolls-Royce workers will be dismissed has been made by the Government and I have no reason to expect that such a figure will be reached. So far 4,300 workers have been given notice. The intention is that they will be paid seven weeks' wages in lieu of notice, so that there is no immediate question of paying unemployment benefit.
