HC Deb 15 March 1971 vol 813 c248W
Mr. Wilkinson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider a reduction of the rate of taxation on savings or unearned income for old-age pensioners to that on earned income.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

I have noted my hon. Friend's suggestion; but I would remind him that age relief gives the equivalent of earned income relief on the investment income of a taxpayer aged 65 or over whose total income does not exceed £1,000.
