HC Deb 15 March 1971 vol 813 cc214-5W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what advice he intends to give to members of the medical profession serving in the National Health Service about the need to preserve confidentiality between doctors and patients, and about the disclosure of information concerning minors without their consent, particularly in the cases of minors in care.

Mr. Fidler

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will issue instructions that no doctor in the National Health Service under his control should treat or advise any minor who is a patient of some other doctor without first seeking and securing consent to do so from him.

Sir K. Joseph

I do not propose to issue advice, still less instructions, on these matters, which are for decision by the patient's doctor.
