HC Deb 15 March 1971 vol 813 c212W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will make a statement on the report of the Committee on Corrosion and Protection; and what action his Department proposes to take in connection with this report.

Mr. Ridley

The report, which was published in full on 4th March, makes a valuable contribution to the state of the knowledge of metallic corrosion and protection in the United Kingdom. Before deciding whether any action by the Government is required, we want to know the reactions of industry and other interested parties such as the professional institutions. Our present view, however, is that since industry would benefit substantially from improvements in protection against corrosion, the initiative for any action should come from industry.
