HC Deb 12 March 1971 vol 813 cc189-90W
Mr. William Clark

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications whether he will give general authority to the Post Office to allow postal services in the future to be provided by operators other than the Post Office.

Mr. Chataway

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave on 22nd February to my hon. Friend the Member for Brighouse and Spenborough (Mr. Proudfoot).—[Vol. 812, c.61.]

Mr. William Clark

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications whether he intends to allow suppliers, other than the Post Office, to sell telephones to the public and to install them.

Mr. Chataway

I am considering the extent of the Post Office monopoly in relation to subscribers' apparatus, but there are difficulties in this particular proposal.
