§ Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the extra deduction which would result each week from the proposed increase of 8½ per cent. on board and lodgings charges for resident nurses, and for those non-resident but takings meals and beverages during a normal period of duty.
§ Mr. AlisonThe negotiated increase of 8½ per cent. from 1st April, 1971, relates to lodging charges separately, because most resident nurses, like nonresident nurses and hospital staff generally, now pay for their meals as taken at prices negotiated by the Ancillary Staffs Council. These prices are being increased by 2½p a week. Examples of the weekly rate of increase in the lodging charges are given below. For those resident nurses who for the time being still pay a combined board and lodging charge there will in addition be an increase of 17½p a week to reflect the increase in the prices paid for meals by other staff. Charges for beverages for non-resident staff are determined locally.
