Mr. Chichester-Clarkasked the Minister of State for Defence how many civilian employees of his Department at Ballykelly Royal Air Force Station he estimates will become redundant in 1971; how many have been offered altternative employment by his Department; and what further plans he has in this direction.
§ Mr. LambtonAbout half of the present 160 employees at R.A.F. Ballykelly will become redundant by June, 1971.
The Army will provide continuing employment at Ballykelly for about 80 Ministry of Defence employees; a further nine have accepted employment elsewhere with Government Departments, and 145W three employees are being retired on age grounds. More than 40 employees are being declared redundant at their own request.
Offers of alternative Government employment have been declined in some cases because the jobs were not local. About 25 employees may have to be discharged if no suitable alternative employment becomes available.
