§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) if he is satisfied with the extent to which British medical and other aid is available in Nigeria to fight cholera; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he is satisfied with the extent to which drugs and vaccines from the United Kingdom are available to combat cholera in Nigeria; if he is satisfied that they can be made available in the future if required; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. KershawI understand that the Nigerian Government have recently purchased in this country through the Crown Agents substantial quantities of anti-cholera vaccine as well as infusion solutions and diagnostic materials. We have received no request for such items out of aid funds. Help for combating serious 159W outbreaks of diseases is in any case normally given through international agencies such as the W.H.O.
