§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Prime Minister if the broadcast statement by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster on 2nd March, on the subject of an offer by Her Majesty's Government to increase the United Kingdom's share of the cost of financing the European Economic Community Budget, represents the policy of Her Majesty's Government.
§ The Prime MinisterYes. My center hon. and learned Friend's reference to increasing the United Kingdom's contribution to the budget of the European 169W Community was quite clearly conditional on the version of M. Schumann's remarks quoted to him by his questioner being accurate and true. We believe that our offer, taken as a whole, would provide a reasonable and equitable contribution to the total budget—including the Community's running costs—over the transitional period.
