HC Deb 11 March 1971 vol 813 cc174-5W
Mr. Hayhoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he is taking to protect centers of appeal, including centers of objection, to him, in the light of the postal strike.

Mr. Peter Walker

Where my powers permit I will be prepared to consider sympathetically appeals made to me and received out of time as a result of the postal strike. There are however obvious practical limits which I must apply to the exercise of these powers and it is of the greatest importance that all those who have been unable over the past weeks to make appeals or objections should now submit these immediately, or inform my Department of their intention to do so.
