asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the family income supplement will affect entitlement to a rate rebate; and what action he proposes to take to counteract any such effect.

For purposes of maximum rate rebate entitlement, the qualifying income limits are the same whatever the source of the income. Rebate will be reduced by 25p for every £1 of income above these limits. I have no present proposals for changing the rate rebate scheme but the rating system as a whole is under consideration as part of our review of local government finance.
