asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will review student grants.

Mr. MacArthur

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the cost of student grants awarded in Scotland and the United Kingdom, respectively, in the last convenient year.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

In 1968–69 the cost of undergraduate and equivalent awards was £14.7 million for Scotland and £.119.6 million for the United Kingdom. The cost of postgraduate awards at studentship level was £7.5 million for the United Kingdom; separate figures for Scotland are not available.

Mr. MacArthur

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total of parental contributions, paid in respect of student receiving grants in Scotland and the United Kingdom, respectively, in the last convenient year.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

In 1968–69 the total of parental contributions assumed in the assessment of student grants was £3.3 million for Scotland and about £32 million for the United Kingdom.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the cost of administering student grants in Scotland and the United Kingdom, respectively.
