HC Deb 09 March 1971 vol 813 c76W
57. Sir G. Nabarro

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications what is his latest estimate of the losses incurred by the Post Office Corporation consequent upon the postal strikes; and what additional loans or other financial support he now proposes to grant to the corporation to prevent financial collapse.

Mr. Chataway

The Post Office estimates that the strike has cost the postal business about £27 million. With the approval of the Treasury, I have consented to a further temporary increase in the Post Office's limit of borrowings from the Bank of England.
