TOTALS FOR THE REGION £1,047,245 £43,464

Mr. Armstrong

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the total amount expended on the Urban Aid Programme in the Northern Region in 1968, 1969 and 1970, and what is the estimated expenditure for 1971 and 1972.

Mr. Sharples

Provisional totals for local authority expenditure in the Northern Economic Planning Region under the Urban Programme are as follows (to the nearest £10,000):

£
Financial Year 1968–69 10,000
Financial Year 1969–70 70,000
The estimated expenditure for 1970–71 is £420,000.

Expenditure for future financial years cannot be closely estimated for particular Regions, especially as it depends in part on the pattern of future applications and approvals; the figures for 1971–72 and 1972–73 are expected to be of the order of £390,000 and £490,000.
