As my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary indicated in his reply on 24th November to my hon. Friend the Member for St. Marylebone (Mr. Kenneth Baker), a preliminary inquiry into the possible introduction of a system of negative income tax has now been completed, and a further examination of the matter is now being made.
