Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, how many approvals were granted in respect of houses to be built by local authorities in Cornwall in each of the years 1968 to 1970.

Mr. Amery

Tenders approved in Cornwall (including the Isles of Scilly) during the years 1968, 1969 and 1970 included 732, 623 and 532 dwellings.

Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the number of housing starts in Cornwall in the past six months; and how these compare with the equivalent six months of the previous year.

Mr. Amery

During the second six months of last year, 1,561 dwellings were started in Cornwall (including the Isles of Scilly) compared with 1,458 in the corresponding period of 1969.
