§ Mr. Clark Hutchisonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give an estimate of the number of additional judges and sheriffs required in Scotland to apply the Community Laws, including the recovery of fines imposed by the Commission, or the European Court, if Great Britain signs the Treaty of Rome.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellSo far as can be foreseen at present, it is unlikely that the entry of the United Kingdom to the European Communities would necessitate any increase in the judiciary in Scotland. Community law would impinge only to a limited extent on the day-to-day business of the courts and it is not expected that the recovery of fines imposed by Community institutions would create a significant burden of additional work for the Scottish courts.
