HC Deb 09 March 1971 vol 813 cc62-3W
43. Mr. Scott-Hopkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest estimate of the sum in £p that will be paid across the exchanges should the United Kingdom join the European Economic Community accepting the present terms offered by the European Economic Community Council of Ministers at the February meeting.

Mr. Maurice Macmillan

The Council has not as yet put forward proposals, either at the February meeting or subsequently. It is therefore not possible to present an estimate of the kind suggested. The estimated effect of the United Kingdom proposals was set out by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in a statement to the House on 16th December, 1970. The Community has not yet replied to these proposals.—[Vol. 808, c. 1354–70.]
