HC Deb 09 March 1971 vol 813 c70W
Mr. Nott

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the estimated number of crates of broccoli produced by Cornish growers and sent to market in each week in January and February of 1969, 1970 and 1971; and the number of acres of broccoli in Cornwall in the same years.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

Estimates of marketings are available only on a monthly basis, and then in terms of weight. For the main growing area in Cornwall marketings of winter cauliflower (broccoli) are as follows:

'000 tons
1969 1970 1971 (provisional)
January 4.9 3.8 2.9
February 4.0 4.2 6.3
Total 8.9 8.0 9.2

The acreage grown in Cronwall in the corresponding crop years was:

1968–69 6,774 acres
1969–70 5,449 acres
1970–71 6,341 acres
