HC Deb 09 March 1971 vol 813 cc64-5W
52. Mr. Clinton Davis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many, and from what source, representations have been made to him concerning the gradual withdrawal of the 2½p piece.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

Both before and after D-Day we received various representations from different sources, including representations about the sixpence. The Government's policy is that the sixpence will remain legal tender for at least two years after D-Day. The banks are maintaining adequate supplies for those customers who require them, and will return to the Mint only those surplus to their requirements.
