asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will issue a White Paper showing the drop in capital investment by Government Departments in the counties of Northumberland and Durham since June, 1970.

No. Having regard to the public investment since June, 1970, in the Northern Region on roads, water, sewerage, derelict land, primary schools, improvement grants, public sector housing and other developments I do not accept the allegation of a drop. As my right hon. Friend indicated to the House on 19th February, Government expenditure in the Northern Region is continuing to increase.
