§ 95. Mr. Mawbyasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry why the Newton Abbot Employment District was not declared an intermediate development area in the way that the Tavistock and Okehampton areas have been recently so designated, and where the rate of unemployment is lower than the Newton Abbot area; and if he will give further consideration to the designation of the Newton Abbot employment district as an intermediate development area.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantIn designating intermediate areas, account is taken of a wide range of factors, including employment structure and prospects, as well as unemployment. The circumstances of Newton Abbot do not justify intermediate area status but the circumstances of all areas are kept under review.
