HC Deb 08 March 1971 vol 813 c52W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he intends to introduce legislation to make it mandatory for the filling-in of mine workings and the landscaping of those and of future mineral mine workings upon the cessation of extraction.

Mr. Graham Page

My right hon. Friend has no proposals for such legislation. Existing legislation requires suitable precautions to be taken at mine workings in the interests of public safety. The appropriate after-treatment of future mineral workings can be secured through planning control. Grants are available for the reclamation of past mining dereliction.
