HC Deb 08 March 1971 vol 813 c54W
Mr. Maclennan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what measures he has taken to promote abroad the possibilities of industrial development in the Highlands and Islands since he asked the Highlands and Islands Development Board to refrain from its foreign promotional campaigns.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I am concerned to ensure that a more effective system is established for the overseas promotion of Scotland as a whole; and, as I indicated in replies to my hon. Friend the Member for Aberdeen, South (Mr. Sproat) and the hon. Member for Edinburgh, East (Mr. Strang) on 29th January and 24th February respectively, considerable progress in this direction has already been made. As a result some proposals for overseas promotion have been reviewed.

The Board is taking part in a trade fair in Switzerland next month.

My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Development will discuss the co-ordination of Scottish industrial promotion with the Board in the near future. —[Vol. 810, c. 222; Vol. 812, c. 134.]
