HC Deb 08 March 1971 vol 813 c9W
69. Mrs. Doris Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if the delay on new halimarking legislation is due to the impossibility of overriding the ancient Royal Charters granted to the London and Edinburgh companies of goldsmiths.

Mr. Ridley

A consultative document has been circulated to ask those concerned, and final decisions on legislative reform await their replies. I do not believe that the Royal Charters will impede this reform.
