§ Mr. RidleyThere is little doubt that the present high level of the tariff, 22 per cent., inhibits United Kingdom exports of these products to E.E.C. countries, but it is not possible to make any realistic estimate of the quantitative effect.

Mr. Frank Allaunasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what was the total trade in the last financial year between the United Kingdom and countries where all foreign trade is handled by the State; whether he is aware that the European Economic Community has decided that from the end of 1972 all trade with countries coming under this definition will be negotiated centrally by the European Economic Community Commission for the Community as a whole; and what legislation will be needed to bring the United Kingdom within this provision.
