asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many firms went bankrupt in the first half of 1970; and how many in the second half of the same year.

The number of receiving orders and orders of administration—under Section 130 of the Bankruptcy Act 1914—made in England and Wales in 1970 was 4,90–2,553 in the first half of the year and 2,354 in the second half.

Partnerships were involved in 274 cases —147 in the first half and 127 in the second.
