HC Deb 05 March 1971 vol 812 c546W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether Gaelic will be included in the languages in which forms can be completed in the forthcoming census.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The forms, which are prescribed in the Census (Scotland) Regulations, 1970, are printed in English and it is hoped they will be completed in English. To provide assistance to this end Census Officers in Gaelic speaking areas have been instructed to appoint enumerators who speak Gaelic as well as English, wherever possible.
