HC Deb 04 March 1971 vol 812 cc518-9W
Mr. Scott-Hopkins

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will now include the drug preparation, Tylosin, in the regulations to be made under the Therapeutic Substances Act, 1956, to be effective from 1st March, 1971, as Tylosin is cross-resistant with erythromycin and oleandomycin, both of which are used in human medicine.

Sir K. Joseph

The effective date of 1st September, 1971, in relation to Tylosin is designed to give manufacturers, distributors and farmers time to dispose of stocks and adjust to other products. I am advised that the availability of Tylosin without prescription up to this date is acceptable in relation to any cross-resistance arising.
