asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the total amount so far paid out by his Department for the support of postmen's wives and children; and what steps he is tak- ing to deal with any postmen who may be making fraudulent claims in not declaring their part-time earnings while on strike.

To Tuesday, 23rd February, the total of supplementary benefit payments to the dependents of persons involved in the current postal dispute was £2,056,673.
