HC Deb 04 March 1971 vol 812 c507W
68. Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Minister of State for Defencd if he will ensure that in future the Union Flag will not be deleted from Army advertisements appearing in Northern Ireland newspapers, but that such advertisements will be kept uniform with those appearing in newspapers in other parts of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Ian Gilmour

There is no significant difference between Army advertising in Northern Ireland and other parts of United Kingdom. The general custom is to use the Union Flag only in national newspaper advertisements arranged centrally for the Regular Army. Many Army advertisements without the Union Flag appear in newspapers published outside Northern Ireland.
