§ Mr. Lomasasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is her policy in relation to the rôle to he played by academic boards in colleges of education, with particular reference to Huddersfield.
§ Mrs. ThatcherMy policy is that all colleges of education should have a properly constituted academic board representative of the staff of the college and with power to include members of the student body. This board should be responsible for the academic work of the college, for the selection of students and for the nomination of members of the academic staff to serve on the governing body; it may have other422W powers and duties delegated to it by the governing body.
All maintained colleges of education, including the Huddersfield College of Education (Technical), now have articles of government made under the Education (No. 2) Act, 1968, which provide for the establishment of such a board.
